The residents of Katchal Island are suffering since the last five days due to mobile network blackout in the Island. BSNL is the lone telecom company with its presence in Katchal Island.
The lone BTS of BSNL at Katchal has developed some fault because of which the Islanders are facing mobile network blackout.
According to sources, BSNL has not been able to post any permanent staff at Katchal Island for years, and the lone BTS is operated by some DRM who has been appointed for housekeeping duties.
Residents are badly suffering as they are unable to keep in touch with the outside world and even unable to keep in touch with people residing in the same Island.
FTTH Broadband Service of BSNL at Katchal is functional, but only a very few residents of the Island have FTTH connections.
