In a monumental achievement, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the dedicated Member of Parliament representing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has clinched the revered Sansad Ratna Award for the third consecutive year. His exceptional contributions and unwavering commitment to the region’s welfare have earned him this prestigious honour among five distinguished MPs from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Over the past half-decade, Sharma has fervently championed numerous critical issues plaguing the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. His initiatives have ranged from filling nearly 10,000 long-vacant administrative posts to advocating for the establishment of an AIIMS facility, deploying specialised doctors to the islands, and ensuring ultrasound availability in all Primary Health Centers. Additionally, he has pushed for the completion of crucial infrastructural projects like the Rutland project and the water transfer to Dhanikhari Dam, among several other vital endeavours.
The MP’s relentless advocacy encompasses a broad spectrum, including safeguarding the non-privatization of the Electricity Department, advocating for fair wages for Anganwari and ASHA workers, regularisation of land encroachments predating 2012, and the introduction of various developmental schemes and infrastructure projects.
This prestigious acknowledgment underscores Sharma’s exceptional parliamentary contributions, reflecting his steadfast dedication to serving the islands’ populace.
The award ceremony is slated to take place on February 17 at the Parliament in the national capital, where Sharma will be honoured for his unparalleled commitment and performance in the Lok Sabha. His consistent and vigorous engagement in parliamentary debates and the adept handling of his responsibilities as an MP have been pivotal in securing this accolade for three consecutive years.
Sharma’s commendable achievements transcend personal recognition, serving as a shining example for parliamentarians nationwide on effective parliamentary engagement and representation.
The Sansad Ratna Award, revered as one of the highest distinctions for parliamentarians, celebrates the exemplary dedication and competence exhibited by recipients in their roles.
This year’s honourees include BJP’s Sukanta Majumdar, Shiv Sena’s Shrikant Eknath Shinde, BJP’s Sudheer Gupta, NCP’s Amol Ramsing Kolhe, and Congress’ Kuldeep Rai Sharma.
