The Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), in collaboration with the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), successfully concluded a one-month Skill Development Training on Poultry and Dairy Farming for beneficiaries from South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman districts. The training, which began on January 20, 2025, concluded on February 19, 2025.
The comprehensive training program incorporated both theoretical and practical components, equipping participants with essential knowledge and hands-on experience. Senior Veterinary Officers from AH&VS training centres at Dollygunj, Port Mout, and Hutbay provided expert guidance. Additionally, beneficiaries were taken on field trips to various farms to gain real-world exposure to poultry and dairy farming operations.
To commemorate the successful completion of the training, a valedictory program was held on March 5 at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Industries, Sri Vijaya Puram. Mr. Rakesh Das, Director of Industries and Member Secretary, A&NI KVIB, attended the event as the chief guest. Special guests included Dr. K. A. Naveen, Director of AH&VS, and Ms. Sunita Kumari, Deputy Director, Directorate of Industries. The event was also graced by the presence of Dr. V. Subramaniam, Senior Veterinary Officer (SVO), AH&VS, and Dr. Negia Nazatha N. Arengh, AH&VS.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Rakesh Das encouraged trainees to capitalize on government schemes such as the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme. He emphasized how these initiatives could aid them in establishing their entrepreneurial ventures. He also expressed gratitude to AH&VS for their invaluable support in executing the training effectively.
Dr. K. A. Naveen and Ms. Sunita Kumari highlighted the importance of self-employment in poultry and dairy farming, urging beneficiaries to set up their own ventures and contribute to rural employment and economic growth. Nodal Officers of the PMFME and PMEGP schemes also provided insights into the benefits and application processes of these programs.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Executive Officer, A&NI KVIB, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Giriraj Singh Chauhan, Supervisor, A&NI KVIB. The training initiative is expected to empower participants with the necessary skills to build sustainable businesses in poultry and dairy farming, fostering economic development in the region.
