As part of a national initiative under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), a two-day training programme was organized by the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Khadi and Village Industries Board for officials of the Department of Posts. The training, held from July 29 at the Conference Hall of the Directorate of Industries, A&N Administration, aimed to equip postal personnel with the skills required for physical verification of PMEGP units in the Islands.
This initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding between the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and the Department of Posts, under which postal staff across the country are tasked with conducting on-ground verification of PMEGP units. KVIC is responsible for training these officials.
Two officials from the KVIC State Office, Kolkata, conducted the training sessions, providing detailed instruction to 18 participating employees from the Postal Department. The programme included both classroom instruction and a field visit to operational PMEGP units in the region, allowing trainees to gain hands-on experience in application-based physical verification.
Upon completion of the verification process, the margin money subsidy associated with the PMEGP units will be appropriately adjusted in the accounts of the respective beneficiaries.
