KVK N&M Andaman Conducts Training on Advanced Oilseed Cultivation Practices at Chainpur

ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North and Middle Andaman, successfully organised a three-day training programme on “Advanced Agricultural Practices for Cultivation of Oilseeds” at the Community Hall, Chainpur Gram Panchayat, from January 13 to 15, 2026. The programme was aimed at enhancing farmers’ knowledge of improved oilseed production technologies suitable for island agro-climatic conditions.

The training programme was inaugurated by Mr. Anil Mondal, Sarpanch of Chainpur Gram Panchayat, who, in his address, encouraged farmers to adopt improved and high-yielding varieties of sesame to enhance productivity and improve farm income.

During the technical sessions, Mr. Rakesh Dawar, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), ICAR–KVK, delivered a detailed presentation on the recommended package of practices for sesame cultivation under island conditions. This was followed by a session by Er. Manoj Kumar, who highlighted the use of modern tools and equipment to improve efficiency and reduce labour in oilseed farming. Mr. Subam Debroy also addressed the participants on oilseed-based fish feed formulation, emphasizing the scope for value addition through integrated farming systems.

As part of the programme, high-quality sesame seeds were distributed to 20 farmers and farm women from the North and Middle Andaman districts to promote oilseed cultivation and ensure better crop establishment and productivity.

The training programme was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director (Acting), ICAR–CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram. Around 30 farmers and farm women participated enthusiastically in the programme and gained practical knowledge and skills to adopt advanced oilseed cultivation practices in their fields.
