The Labour Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has issued a strong appeal to all employers and gig workers across the Islands to prioritize registration on the e-Shram portal, a national initiative by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The portal aims to create a comprehensive database of unorganised workers, including gig workers, enabling them to access a range of social security schemes and benefits. Gig workers—those participating in non-traditional employment arrangements and earning through platform-based services such as freelancing, food delivery, and e-commerce—are a key focus of this initiative.
The registration process on the e-Shram portal is simple, free of cost, and can be completed within minutes. Workers and employers are required to:
1. Visit the official e-Shram portal at www.eshram.gov.in.
2. Provide the necessary details, including Aadhaar number, bank account details, and contact information.
3. Follow the instructions to complete the registration.
To ease the registration process, the Labour Department has established a Special Cell to guide workers and employers. Those needing assistance can contact the department at Phone No: 230157.
The Labour Department has urged all employers in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to take proactive steps in ensuring their workers are registered. Individual gig workers are also encouraged to prioritise their registration, which is vital for enhancing their social security and contributing to the sustainable development of the unorganised workforce in the region.
This initiative is a crucial step towards recognising and supporting gig workers, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary safeguards for a secure future.
