The Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, has launched a nationwide campaign from April 7 to 17, 2025, to conduct Special Registration Camps for platform and gig workers across the country. This initiative is aimed at bringing workers engaged in non-traditional employment under the ambit of formal welfare schemes.

Platform workers are individuals who use online platforms to offer services or solve specific problems without a traditional employer-employee relationship. Gig workers, similarly, earn income through short-term engagements or freelance jobs outside conventional employment structures.

The campaign supports the announcements made in the Union Budget 2025–26, which include the registration of such workers on the e-Shram portal, issuance of identity cards, and extension of health benefits under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Labour Department has appealed to all eligible platform and gig workers to register themselves on the e-Shram portal at https://register.eshram.gov.in/#/user/platform-worker-registration.

Workers who face difficulties in registering online can visit the Labour Department office at Sri Vijaya Puram on any working day for assistance. For further information or support, individuals can contact the department at 03192-230157.
