The ladder of the pontoon and jetty at the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex (RGWSC) has sustained significant damage due to inclement weather, rendering it unsafe for boat operations. This disruption affects the movement of tourists to nearby islands, including Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Island and North Bay.

To ensure the safety of travellers, all inland vessels will be redirected to operate from the Junglighat Jetty, effective Dec. 16, 2024, until necessary restoration work on the RGWSC jetty is completed. These measures are being taken to ensure safety of tourists.

Tourist safety is paramount, and authorities should be lauded for their prompt decision to prioritize the well-being of tourists intending to visit North Bay and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island. Tourism remains the largest private-sector employer in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and it is crucial to ensure that tourist facilities across the islands remain safe and secure. All necessary steps must be taken to preserve the integrity of these essential services, especially during the busy tourist season.
