Landmark Judgment: 20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment for Accused in POCSO Case Following Diligent Police Investigation

In a landmark judgment that reinforces the commitment to protecting children from sexual offences, the Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO), Mr. Subhajit Basu, on November 7, 2025, sentenced accused Sanjeeb Das to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 60,000 in connection with Crime No. 64/2023 registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 at Police Station Diglipur.

The conviction marks a major success for the North & Middle Andaman District Police, whose prompt and meticulous investigation led to the stringent punishment. The case was investigated by SI Deepti Minj under the supervision of Inspector K. Binoj, then Station House Officer, Diglipur. Police officials credited their professionalism, determination, and evidence-based approach for ensuring justice in the case.

The North & Middle Andaman District Police described the verdict as a strong message that crimes against children will not be tolerated and will attract the severest legal consequences. The department reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward sexual offences and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of children across the islands.

The A&N Police commended the efforts of the investigating team and emphasized their continued resolve to uphold the rule of law, ensure justice for victims, and maintain public confidence in the justice system.
