Large Cache of Illicit Liquor Seized from Shop at Billiground Market

In a swift operation aimed at curbing the illegal liquor trade, Billiground Police on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, seized a large quantity of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a shop at Billiground Market in North and Middle Andaman District.

Acting on specific and reliable intelligence regarding the unauthorised storage and sale of liquor, a special team from Police Station Billiground conducted a search operation at the premises. The operation was led by Sub-Inspector P.C. Manickam, Station House Officer, along with SI G. Ashok Kumar, HC Samir Halder, PCs Abhijit Mondal, Litan Halder, Meera Mondal, Nisha Mondal, and HGVs Karan Bhattacharjee and Chapia Bepari, under the close supervision of SDPO Rangat, Mr. Chandan G.S., DANIPS.

During the search of the rear portion of the shop, the police recovered a substantial cache of company-sealed IMFL, including 88 bottles of 750 ml, 64 bottles of 375 ml, and 39 bottles of 180 ml. The liquor was allegedly being stored illegally for sale.

The seized liquor was recovered from the possession of the shopkeeper, identified as Anup Goshal, a resident of Billiground. Upon interrogation, he failed to produce any valid permit or licence authorising the possession or storage of such a large quantity of liquor.

Following the seizure, the illicit liquor was taken into police custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Excise Regulation.

Police stated that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal activities and maintain law and order in the area. The police have appealed to the general public to share credible information related to crime or illegal activities with their nearest police station or through emergency helpline numbers 100, 112, or 03192-273344, assuring that the identity of informers will be kept confidential.
