Legal Aid Services Clinic Inaugurated at Andaman Law College to Boost Legal Access and Literacy

The Legal Aid Services Clinic at Andaman Law College was officially inaugurated on June 21, marking an important step towards enhancing access to legal aid and promoting legal awareness among the residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The inaugural session was graced by distinguished members of the judiciary, including Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge of the Supreme Court and Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA); Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dipankar Datta, Supreme Court Judge and Patron of the Andaman & Nicobar State Legal Services Authority (A&N SLSA); Hon’ble Mr. Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court and Patron-in-Chief of A&N SLSA; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya, Judge of the Calcutta High Court and Executive Chairman of A&N SLSA; along with Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jay Sengupta and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Bivas Pattanayak, Judges of the Calcutta High Court currently holding Circuit Bench at Port Blair.

This new clinic is designed to offer practical legal assistance to the community while actively involving law students in real-world legal aid under the guidance of experienced legal professionals. The initiative is expected to strengthen legal literacy and provide timely support to citizens in need of legal help across the islands.
