In a bid to enlighten the adolescent students of Government Senior Secondary School, Telugu Medium, Haddo, about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Child Trafficking, the District Legal Services Authority of Andaman and Nicobar Islands organised a Legal Awareness Camp on 2nd September 2023.
The event, hosted with the aim of raising awareness and educating the students on critical legal matters, saw enthusiastic participation from both students and esteemed guests. Notable figures in the legal community graced the occasion, including Mr. Anupam Mukherjee, the District & Sessions Judge and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The event also welcomed Mr. Bhawani Shankar Sharma, Additional District Sessions Judge, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Ms. Krishnakoli Mukherjee, Judicial Magistrate First Class-1st Court, Port Blair, Miss. A. S. Zinu, Ld. Public Prosecutor (POCSO), and Miss Tasneem Abid, Ld. Public Prosecutor (POCSO).
The Legal Awareness Camp was further saw the presence of Mr. Gyan Sheel Dubey, Deputy Education Officer of South Andaman’s Education Department, and the Principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Telugu Medium, Haddo.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by the Ld. District & Sessions Judge of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, setting the tone for an enlightening session. Each dignitary took the stage, elaborating on the crucial aspects of Child Trafficking and the POCSO Act. They underscored the significance of safeguarding children’s rights and well-being, emphasising the duty to protect the youngest members of society.
The speakers’ insights, legal expertise, and practical knowledge proved invaluable in educating the young participants. They urged the students to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing child trafficking and addressing issues related to child abuse.
The culmination of the event featured an interactive session, during which students engaged in a lively dialogue with the legal experts. They posed questions, seeking clarity on various aspects of the law, and received informative responses, further empowering them with knowledge and awareness.
