Legal Awareness Campaign on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan Held in Nancowry

The Office of the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry, in collaboration with the A&N State Legal Service Authority and A&N Administration, organised a two-day Legal Awareness Campaign under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan on November 23 and 24.

On November 23, the campaign commenced with a session at the EOC Conference Hall in Kamorta, where Mr. Bhawani Shanker Sharma, Registrar-cum-Member Secretary of the A&N State Legal Service Authority, addressed the Head of Offices, Tribal leaders, Police Personnel, and Health Workers. In his interaction, Mr. Sharma highlighted the crucial roles parents and teachers play in educating children and young adults about the severe consequences of drug abuse and the importance of preventing sexual abuse.

The campaign continued on November 24 at Indira Park, Kamorta, where Mr. Ravinder Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Nancowry, addressed the gathering. Mr. Kumar elaborated on the efforts to protect children from sexual offences and drug abuse. Mr. Bhawani Shanker Sharma, the guest speaker, gave an insightful presentation on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012, Drug Abuse, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and the Rights of Victims. During the session, he also personally interacted with school students, urging them to avoid behaviours that could jeopardize their educational careers.

In addition, the Office of the Assistant Commissioner organized a drawing competition at the venue, centered around the themes of POCSO and Drug Abuse. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from a large number of students across various schools in the area.

The campaign successfully raised awareness about critical issues affecting the safety and well-being of children in the region.
