The Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has announced a revision in the Minimum Rates of Wages for workers in the Union Territory. This update, in accordance with the Minimum Wages Act of 1948, will be implemented from January 1, 2025.
The revised rates are categorised into six schedules of employment, in addition to government departments, offices, and industrial establishments. The new daily wage rates are as follows:
– Unskilled Workers: Rs. 641.00
– Semi-Skilled/Unskilled Supervisory: Rs. 722.00
– Skilled/Clerical Workers: Rs. 845.00
– Highly Skilled Workers: Rs. 928.00
Employers in all establishments are required to comply with these revised wage rates. A copy of the official order can be downloaded from the Labour Department’s website at www.labour.and.nic.in. Employers who fail to adhere to these new wage rates will face punitive action under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, and its accompanying rules.
This revision marks a significant step toward ensuring fair compensation for workers across the Union Territory.
