LPG Supply in Little Andaman Faces Shortfall; Fresh Consignment Expected Soon

Sri Vijaya Puram, 23 February 2025

Little Andaman’s LPG consumers have been assured that the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (CS&CA) is actively monitoring the replenishment of LPG in remote areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. However, the responsibility for ensuring a timely supply of cylinders rests with the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) and its authorised distributors.

Following the department’s intervention, a consignment of 1,300 domestic LPG cylinders was delivered to Little Andaman on February 14, 2025, via the cargo vessel MV Ebrahim Ali Hussain. This shipment was part of ongoing efforts to maintain a steady supply of LPG across the region.

Despite the delivery, the full demand for LPG in Little Andaman could not be met due to the vessel’s limited storage capacity, resulting in a shortfall. To address this, the CCS Ltd. has assured that an adequate consignment of LPG cylinders for February will be dispatched in the coming days aboard MV Bay Island.

The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, in coordination with IOCL, has committed to closely monitoring the situation to ensure that CCS Ltd. fulfils its obligation to provide sufficient LPG cylinders to residents and alleviate supply challenges. (Story Based on a PR)
