Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, attended the 42nd Annual General Meeting of the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) in Roorkee.
The meeting focused on advancing hydrological research techniques and tools to assess the impact of climate change on water resources. Experts also deliberated on cost-effective solutions to address water-related challenges, particularly during the summer months.
During the session, the Lt. Governor highlighted the milestone achievement of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in becoming the country’s first Swachh Sujal Pradesh in September 2022, as declared by the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
The discussions in the AGM also emphasised identifying and mapping new groundwater aquifers and enhancing community awareness regarding water conservation.
