Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, met with Mr. Bhupender Yadav, Union Cabinet Minister for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, during his visit to the national capital on January 20, 2025.
The meeting focused on the escalating human-crocodile conflict in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Highlighting the critical nature of the issue, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor emphasized the urgent need for effective strategies to mitigate the conflict. Such measures are essential not only for ensuring the safety and well-being of local inhabitants but also for fostering the sustainable growth of tourism in the region.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands, renowned for its pristine beaches and biodiversity, have witnessed an increase in crocodile encounters, posing a threat to both residents and tourists. Effective mitigation strategies are urgently required to balance the delicate ecosystem with the safety of the tourists and the residents.
