Lt. Governor Felicitates Indian Coast Guard Personnel for Historic Drug Seizure in Andaman Sea

Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, felicitated officers and personnel of the Indian Coast Guard at Raj Niwas for their role in a landmark operation. The mission led to the seizure of approximately 6000 kilograms of illegal drugs from a Myanmarese fishing boat in the Andaman Sea, marking one of the largest drug busts in Indian maritime history.

During the ceremony, the Lt. Governor lauded the officers and crew for their exceptional courage and unwavering commitment, which were instrumental in intercepting the vessel and detaining its crew. He recognised their significant contribution to upholding maritime security and combating illicit activities in the region.

The Lt. Governor also interacted with the personnel, expressing his appreciation for their efforts and dedication. As a gesture of recognition, he presented ‘Lt. Governor’s On the Spot Commendation Certificates’ and mementoes to the officers and men involved in the operation.

Those honoured included Deputy Commandant Amit Chauhan (1238-M), Deputy Commandant Chirag Luthra (1312-E), Deputy Commandant Sachin Yadav (1637-S), and Akshay Singh Bhadauriya (U/Nvk(ME) 14542-Z).

The operation stands as a testament to the Indian Coast Guard’s vigilance and capability in safeguarding the nation’s maritime boundaries against transnational crime.
