In a step aimed at strengthening women-centric policing and enhancing field mobility, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, on Wednesday flagged off 36 non-gear scooters for lady police personnel.

The flag-off ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Police, and other senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and Andaman and Nicobar Police.

The induction of the scooters is aimed at enhancing the mobility of women police personnel and strengthening beat patrolling across all police stations in the Islands. The initiative is expected to improve police visibility, enhance women’s safety, and boost public confidence through quicker response and effective community engagement.

The scooters, Hero Pleasure+ LX models, were procured from M/s Hero MotoCorp under the Annual Action Plan, following approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2025.

Officials stated that the initiative reflects the Andaman and Nicobar Police’s continued commitment to women empowerment, crime prevention, and community-oriented policing.
