In a poignant ceremony held on 14th April 2024, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd), the Honorable Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, spearheaded a heartfelt tribute to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on what would have been his 133rd Birth Anniversary. The event, marked by solemnity and reverence, took place at the statue of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, situated near the main entrance of the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium, PBMC.
The Honourable Lt. Governor initiated the proceedings by offering floral tributes to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, a towering figure in India’s history and a champion of social justice. Following suit, other dignitaries including Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, and Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva IPS, the Director General of Police for the A&N Islands, joined in paying their respects. Alongside them, senior officers of the A&N Administration, esteemed senior citizens, and members of the general public contributed to the homage paid to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s enduring legacy.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, fondly remembered as the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, remains a beacon of inspiration for his unwavering commitment to equality, social justice, and empowerment of the marginalised sections of society. As the Lt. Governor and fellow Islanders gathered to honour his memory, their collective homage symbolised a reaffirmation of Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals and their enduring relevance in the nation’s ethos.
The commemorative event not only served as a tribute to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s remarkable life and contributions but also as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for social justice and equality, ideals that continue to resonate deeply in contemporary India.
