Lt. Governor Leads Tributes at Chatham Memorial on the Anniversary of the Arrival of the First Batch of Freedom Fighters of 1857 in A & N Islands

Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, led the islanders in paying homage to the heroes of the First War of Independence on 10th March 2025. 10 March marks the anniversary of the arrival of the first batch of freedom fighters of 1857 to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In a solemn ceremony held at the Chatham Memorial on Chatham Island, the Lieutenant Governor laid a wreath at the memorial. Senior officials of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, members of the Local Born Association, old inhabitants of the islands, and members of the general public also offered floral tributes.

A two-minute silence was observed in memory of the valiant freedom fighters who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country. The event served as a poignant reminder of the islands’ historical significance in India’s struggle for independence.
