In a significant move to preserve the rich history of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor has reconstituted the ‘Regional Records Survey Committee.’ This initiative also includes the formation of a ‘District Records Survey Committee’ for each of the three districts: South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman, and Car Nicobar.

Each District Records Survey Committee will be chaired by the respective District Deputy Commissioners of the Administration. These committees have been tasked with surveying and cataloging records, documents, photographs, manuscripts, and other materials relevant to the history of the A&N Islands.

The A&N Administration is reaching out to individuals and private institutions that may possess such valuable historical information. They are encouraged to contact the A&N Archives directly, either in person or via phone at 230695, or to reach out to the Deputy Commissioner of their respective district. This effort aims to collect original or copied records for preservation in the A&N Archives, located in the Secretariat. The preserved records will be available for future reference and will benefit research scholars, students, and the general public.

The A&N Administration has committed to covering any costs associated with photocopying or other reproduction processes. Additionally, all contributors will receive due acknowledgment from the ‘Regional Records Survey Committee’ for their valuable contributions to the A&N Archives.
