Lt. Governor Reviews Presentation made by Consultants on Initial Draft Master Plan for Great Nicobar Island Township

Admiral DK Joshi (Retd.), the Hon’ble Lt Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, led a comprehensive review session on 30th April 2024 to assess the initial draft Master Plan for the Great Nicobar Island Township.

The gathering was attended by key stakeholders and consultants, including Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, and senior officers from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

The meeting shed light on the ambitious plans outlined under the Maritime India Vision 2030, aiming for holistic development and economic upliftment of the region. With proposed investments totalling over Rs. 75,000 crore, the projects aim to transform the Andaman and Nicobar Islands into a pivotal economic hub.

Among the flagship projects planned are the International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT), a Greenfield Airport, and a Power Plant. These projects, which are nearing finalisation in their preparatory phases, are poised to act as significant force multipliers, fostering economic growth and regional connectivity.

These initiatives will play an important role in realising the long-term developmental goals for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The meeting provided a platform for constructive dialogue and strategic planning, laying the groundwork for the sustainable and inclusive growth of the region.
