Lt. Governor to Inaugurate Five Day Island Tourism Festival-2023 Today

Andaman and Nicobar Islands is set to witness a five-day extravaganza as the Island Tourism Festival-2023, organized by the A&N Administration. The festival commences today, the 27th of December 2023 at the ITF Ground on VIP Road, Port Blair. The inauguration, scheduled for 4:30 pm, will be graced by the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral DK Joshi, along with other dignitaries including Member of Parliament, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, and Chief Secretary (I/C), Mr. Nikhil Kumar, IAS, alongside senior officers from the Administration.

This grand event, a collaborative effort between the Tourism Department and the Department of Art & Culture, promises a tapestry of cultural richness and vibrant performances. The opening ceremony will be marked by a soulful ‘Ganesh Vandana’ performance by differently-abled artists from ‘We Are One,’ followed by a poignant choreography presentation titled ‘Tributes to lives lost in Tsunami 2004’ by eminent choreographer Ms. Shohini Dutta. The evening will crescendo with the electrifying tunes of the Nicobarese Band, ‘Kuan Panam,’ known for their captivating live performances.

The festival’s first day is packed with cultural showcases, including Rajasthani Folk Music Performances, choreography presentations, and diverse folk dance performances from different parts of India, ranging from Assam’s Bihu to Jammu & Kashmir’s Rouf, all starting from 5:30 pm onwards.

Preparations at the venue are in full swing, promising a memorable experience for both Islanders and tourists. Spread across various designated venues, including Wandoor, Wimberlygunj, Ferrargunj, and many more, the festival aims to captivate audiences with performances by artists from both the mainland and the islands.

The Island Tourism Festival is a cherished annual cultural extravaganza, showcasing the region’s diverse heritage. It not only celebrates local talent but also welcomes renowned artists from mainland India, offering visitors a cultural immersion through music, dance, art, and delectable cuisines.

The festival is not just about entertainment; it’s a platform for local artisans and small businesses, with the Rural Development Department facilitating the showcasing of homemade products and handicrafts by Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

The festivities will run from 4 pm to 10 pm daily, offering an array of cultural programs, food courts, handicraft stalls, and engaging activities for children. Additionally, arrangements by the Shipping & Transport Departments ensure accessibility for people from remote areas, with extra ferry and bus services.

The Island Tourism Festival beckons both Islanders and tourists to participate and create unforgettable memories. In conjunction with the festival, the End of Scene band from Delhi is scheduled to perform at Swaraj Dweep on Dec. 27 and Shaheed Dweep on Dec. 28, promising a unique musical experience in a land often resonating with Bollywood tunes.

The Island Tourism Festival-2023 pledges to be a celebration of culture, diversity, and community spirit, inviting all to revel in the magic it unfolds over the next five days.
