Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, unveiled the new logo of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration on November 22, 2024.

According to a press release from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, the new logo encapsulates the historic legacy of the Islands and highlights the government’s focus on infrastructure development, contributing to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat.’ The logo, designed by renowned Island designer Mr. Jag Jeevan Ram, incorporates key elements representing the Islands’ identity.

The design features the Cellular Jail, mangroves, the state animal Dugong, and the Narcondam Hornbill, showcasing the Islands’ historical and ecological significance. Infrastructure landmarks such as the Veer Savarkar International Airport Terminal Building, the proposed International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) in Great Nicobar, and the Azad Hind Fauz Setu (Uttara) are also depicted, along with solar panels symbolising a shift towards renewable energy.

While the logo has been praised for its representation of development and heritage, some social media users have pointed out the absence of elements representing the indigenous tribes of the Islands, a vital part of the region’s cultural identity.

The inclusion of the upcoming ICTT in Great Nicobar underscores the Administration’s commitment to transformative projects aimed at shaping the Islands’ future.

Mr. Jag Jeevan Ram, who designed the logo, has an extensive portfolio, having created logos for various departments of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, events by Government of India’s Ministries, and the Andaman and Nicobar Command. He also designed the commemorative ₹75 coin unveiled by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on the 75th anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisting the Tricolour for the first time in Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram).
