D. Ayyappan, Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), represented the Union Territory at the 24th Party Congress held in Madurai from April 2 to 6, 2025. Ayyappan actively participated in the discussions on organisational matters, contributing to the deliberations alongside representatives from across the country.
The five-day Congress concluded with a strong call to party members and sympathizers nationwide to strengthen the party’s independent role in countering what it termed the “neo-fascist BJP-led government.” During the concluding session, senior party leader M.A. Baby was elected as the new General Secretary. An 85-member Central Committee and an 18-member Polit Bureau were also elected to guide the party’s activities going forward. Additionally, G. Ramakrishnan was chosen as Chairman of the Control Commission.
Ayyappan’s intervention came during the discussion on the Report on Organisation, presented by Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu. His participation underscored the continued political engagement of the A&N unit within the broader national framework of CPI(M).
The CPI(M) Party Congress marked a crucial moment for the party as it laid out its roadmap for the coming years, emphasizing grassroots mobilisation and organisational consolidation.
