In a significant development for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the vessel “Sindhu” completed its maiden voyage to Aerial Bay Jetty in Diglipur today, marking a historic moment in the region’s maritime connectivity.
Shipping services play a vital role as the lifeline of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and the introduction of two new vessels, Sindhu and Nalanda, has added modernity and comfort to this essential lifeline.
Earlier, Sindhu had made a noteworthy stop at Katchal Island, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the island’s residents. The people of Katchal had eagerly awaited faster and more comfortable ships, as well as direct docking at Katchal Jetty.
Nalanda, the other new vessel, etched its name in history by successfully docking at the challenging Car Nicobar Jetty and ferrying passengers to and from the remote island.
Today’s docking of Sindhu at Aerial Bay Jetty, Diglipur, was executed under the command of Capt. Rohit Mohan Lall. Notably, Captain Lall was born at Diglipur, making this achievement all the more special.
The arrival of Sindhu was met with a warm welcome from the local residents in Diglipur. This momentous event brings relief to the people of this remote region who have long faced difficulties traveling to Port Blair, primarily due to the challenging condition of National Highway-4.
With the docking of Sindhu in Diglipur, the residents now have an alternative and more comfortable means of travel to and from Port Blair, alleviating the strain caused by the challenging road conditions. The people of Diglipur are urging for the establishment of regular services using these modern ships between Port Blair and Diglipur, which would further enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother travel for the local population.
