In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on drug-related offences, the Rangat Police Station (PS) has successfully seized 3.09 kilograms of methamphetamine and arrested two individuals in connection with the case. This operation is part of a larger effort to combat the drug menace in the region.

The bust comes after the police received critical information from Sanjeev Kumar Halder, who is currently in custody under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Halder, arrested earlier this month by PS Rangat, disclosed that he had been supplied methamphetamine by two individuals: Ashok Maithy, a retired electrician from the Military Engineer Services (MES) residing in Buniyadabad, and Raju Golder, a private worker from Hutbay.

Acting on this lead, on September 16, 2024, authorities learned that Maithy and Golder were en route to Diglipur by bus with plans to sell the drugs. A special team, led by Sub-Inspector Madhab Halder, Station House Officer of PS Rangat, was immediately formed under the direction of SDPO Rahul L. Nair, IPS.

The team intercepted the suspects’ bus near Rangat and conducted a thorough search of their belongings. A search of Golder’s bag led to the discovery of 3.09 kilograms of methamphetamine. During the initial investigation, Golder revealed that he had retrieved the drugs from floating parcels at sea. Both Golder and Maithy subsequently confessed to their involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Their arrest is directly linked to the ongoing investigation into the NDPS case registered against Sanjeev Kumar Halder on September 2, 2024, at PS Rangat.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

– Ashok Maithy, 61, son of Ram Krishna Maithy, a retired MES electrician and resident of Buniyadabad.

– Raju Golder, 36, son of Anadhi Golder, a private worker residing in Hutbay.

Both suspects are now in custody at PS Rangat and face charges under the NDPS Act. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover more details about their operations and potential links to wider drug networks.

This successful operation was conducted under the overall direction and supervision of Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District, Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS.

Police have urged the public to come forward with any information related to criminal or illegal activities. Citizens are encouraged to contact their nearest police station or reach out via the phone numbers 100, 112, or 03192-273344. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential, and they may also be eligible for a reward.

This significant drug bust marks another step forward in Rangat Police’s efforts to eradicate the drug trade and protect the local community.
