Major Drug Bust in South Point: 10.8 Kg of Ganja Seized, One Arrested

In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, in a joint operation with the Crime & Economic Offences (C&EO) unit, seized nearly 11 kilograms of ganja and arrested one person in South Andaman on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers led by Inspector Mohmad Sameer, In-Charge of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, and supported by personnel from the C&EO police station, intercepted a delivery at the ITT Shipping Godown Complex near Sinclairs Hotel, South Point. During the operation, 10.895 kilograms of ganja concealed inside an air compressor was recovered.

The accused, identified as Durga Rao (40), a private worker residing in Lamba Pahad, Wimberlygunj, was caught red-handed while attempting to collect the parcel. Police said that Rao was acting on the instructions of an associate based in Kolkata.

Investigators also revealed that Rao has a prior criminal record and was previously booked in a narcotics case registered at Bambooflat Police Station in 2020.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is underway.

The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of Mr. Kumar Abhishek, Dy.SP (CID), and Mr. Rajnikant Awadhiya, Dy.SP (Narcotics), with oversight by Mr. Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (CID), Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
