Major General Ajay Feroze Shah Assumes Charge as Chief of Staff of Andaman & Nicobar Command

Major General Ajay Feroze Shah assumed charge today as the Chief of Staff of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC). He took over the appointment from Rear Admiral Biplab Hota, Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).

Commissioned into the 14th Battalion of The Brigade of the Guards in June 1991, Major General Shah was serving as Major General General Staff Training (MGGS Trg) (Bravo) at Headquarters Army Training Command (HQ ARTRAC) prior to this appointment.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, the General Officer is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), the Higher Command Course (HCC), and the National Defence College (NDC) at the South African National Defence College.

Major General Shah has served across diverse operational environments, including glacier terrain, counter-insurgency operations, the Line of Control, and the desert sector. His command assignments include the Mobile Reserve Unit with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), a Reconnaissance and Support Battalion, a Corps Reserve Infantry Brigade, and a Mountain Division.

His key staff appointments include General Staff Officer Grade I (GSO-I), Assistant Military Secretary (AMS), Colonel General Staff (Equipment), Military Assistant to the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Army Training Command, Colonel General Staff of an Infantry Division, and Brigadier General Staff (BGS) of a Strike Corps.

A recipient of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Card twice and the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Commendation Card thrice, Major General Shah brings with him extensive operational and staff experience.

With his wide-ranging professional background, Major General Ajay Feroze Shah is expected to contribute significantly towards strengthening joint planning, coordination, and operational effectiveness of the Andaman & Nicobar Command, India’s only tri-services command.
