Major violence broke out at Diglipur Bazaar today. A crowd entered an Electronics Shop and broke all the appliances and largely destroyed everything in the shop.
Nicobar Times spoke to Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP (N&M Andaman) who informed us that it was a simple case of cow slaughtering for commercial purpose. Three people from Jharkhand Community slaughtered a cow for commercial purpose, for distribution among a private group. She added that some people tried giving the case a communal angle and attacked a shop belonging to a person from Muslim Community. She further informed that the case for slaughtering of cow has been registered.
Cases are also being registered against those involved in the violence that took place. SP, N & M Andaman also informed that some police personnel also got injured during the violence and cases are also being registered against those involved in injuring the police personnel.
Sources have informed Nicobar Times that the crowd had badly beaten up the shopkeeper and his staff. The inventory of the shop has largely been destroyed along with the inventory from the godown of the same shop owner. The godown was located elsewhere and the violent crowd also broke into the godown and destroyed the inventory.
Some witnesses of the incident also informed that some people involved in the violence also disassembled the Hard Disk from the CCTV DVR of the shop and destroyed it by exposing it to water.
