In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, officials from PS Billiground arrested a man with 10.493 kg of ganja during a raid conducted at a house in Jaipur area Near Nimbudera on 2nd of March 2025. The accused, Prodeep Bepari (42), a permanent resident of Ramnagar, Kalighat, was found in possession of the contraband while staying at his sister’s residence in Jaipur Area.
According to the FIR, Police received credible information about an individual actively seeking buyers for a large quantity of illicit ganja. Acting on the intelligence, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rangat, Mr. Chandan G.S., directed the formation of a raiding team. The team was led by Sub-Inspector M.V. Shiju Kumar and included Head Constable Pradeep Kr. Kindo, Police Constables Mohd. Mustafa, Abhijit Mondal, Sujan Gharmi, Narayan Chandra Roy, and Lady Police Constable Sony Kumari.
The police team, accompanied by independent witnesses, proceeded to the house where the accused was residing. Upon reaching the location, they intercepted Prodeep Bepari and informed him of the search proceedings. A search of the house was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses.
During the search, two duffle bags were found in the hall of the house. Upon opening the bags, the police discovered ten packets tightly packed with cello tape, emitting a strong odour. The packets were shown to the witnesses, who identified the substance as suspected ganja. A drug detection kit was used to confirm the substance, which tested positive for ganja. The exact weight of the contraband was recorded as 10.493 kg, with each packet weighing between 0.894 kg to 1.081 kg.
Following legal procedures, the police seized the ganja under a seizure memo, and the accused was formally arrested under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
