A resident of Buniyadabad has fallen victim to a sophisticated online investment scam, losing a total of ₹93,000 to cyber fraudsters operating through the Telegram messaging app.

According to a complaint filed at the Cyber Crime Police Station, the incident began on April 24 when the victim received a message on Telegram from an unidentified user. The message offered “demo trading tasks” that promised profits from online investments. After completing ten such demo tasks, the victim was introduced to another user, who persuaded him to invest a small amount and promised quick returns.

Trusting the process, the complainant initially transferred ₹2,000 via Google Pay, which was followed by communication with another Telegram user, who posed as a receptionist. She requested personal and financial information, including UPI and bank account details. Shortly afterward, small amounts of ₹150 and ₹3,000 were credited to the victim’s bank account — a typical tactic used by fraudsters to build trust.

The victim was then introduced to a supposed “Cboe Task teacher” named Sanjay Sharma through Telegram. This individual guided the complainant to a website titled Global India, where he was asked to submit personal details along with an invitation code. As part of the scheme, the victim made another payment of ₹5,000, lured by the promise of receiving ₹7,500 in return.

The complainant was eventually added to a Telegram group where he was urged to make larger investments. Over the next few days, he made multiple payments totalling ₹93,000 via Google Pay, with no returns ever materialising.

Realizing he had been deceived, the victim filed a report through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal on April 29. The case has now been officially registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and investigation has been taken up by the Cyber Crime Police Station.
