The Department of Tourism, A&N Administration, in collaboration with the Department of Environment & Forests and the Gram Panchayat, Shoal Bay, will organize a Mangrove Walk at Shoal Bay on November 8, 2025, from 8 AM to 10 AM.

The initiative aims to promote eco-tourism and self-employment opportunities for local youth by encouraging them to take up eco-guiding and conservation-linked livelihood activities. Participants will get a first-hand experience of the diverse flora and fauna of the mangrove ecosystem, guided by experts from the Forest Department who will explain the ecological significance and biodiversity of the area.

Participation is restricted to 50 persons, with priority given to local youth from nearby areas as part of a self-employment generation initiative. The Department has also invited tour operators, tourism stakeholders, naturalists, environmentalists, and tourists to join the event.

To facilitate participation, a dedicated bus arranged with the support of the Transport Department will depart from Mohanpura Bus Terminus at 6 AM and is expected to reach Shoal Bay by 8 AM. The return journey will commence after the one-hour excursion.

Interested individuals may submit their applications to the Department of Tourism by November 6, 2025. Application forms are available with the Manager (Ops), Directorate of IP&T, Sri Vijaya Puram (Contact: 9933255364).

The first 50 applicants will be selected for the initial phase of the Mangrove Walk, while remaining applicants will be accommodated in subsequent phases as per the approved calendar of events. Upon successful completion of the excursion, certificates will be issued to all participants jointly endorsed by officials from the Tourism Department, Forest Department, and Gram Panchayat, Shoal Bay.
