The Andaman Nicobar Democratic Congress has officially declared Mr. Manoj Paul as its contender for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, representing the A & N Parliamentary Constituency.
Hailing from the serene confines of Madhupur Village in Diglipur, North and Middle Andaman, Mr. Manoj Paul is a familiar name across the islands, predominantly known for his fervent activism.
Despite being embroiled in various controversies due to the provocative nature of his activism, Mr. Manoj Paul is recognised for his outspokenness, fearlessly criticising individuals and policies alike. While his methods have often been a subject of debate, there exists a considerable following who closely adhere to his ideologies.
The dynamics of political engagement in the Andaman Nicobar Islands is expected to witness a significant shift with Mr. Manoj Paul’s entry into the electoral fray. However, it remains to be seen how his activist background translates into the nuanced realm of politics, where a different skill set is often required.
As of the morning of March 7, 2024, the candidature of four individuals has been confirmed by their respective parties. Alongside Mr. Manoj Paul, other declared candidates include Mr. V K Abdul Aziz from the Andaman Nicobar Janta Party, Dr. Arun K Mallik from the Bahujan Samaj Party, and Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, a three-term former MP, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party.
With the Congress yet to announce its candidate for the Andaman and Nicobar Constituency, anticipation looms over the forthcoming declarations from other political factions as the electoral landscape gradually takes shape.
