Marine Police Operational Centre in Port Blair Awarded ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Marine Police Operational Centre, Police Marine Force (PMF) in Chatham, Port Blair, has achieved the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 certification. This certification acknowledges that the PMF’s Quality Management System has met the rigorous standards set by ISO 9001:2015, marking a significant milestone in the force’s commitment to excellence and operational efficiency.

The scope of activities covered under this certification includes safeguarding the coastline and islands against illegal activities, conducting anti-poaching operations, coastal patrolling, search and rescue operations, detecting foreign intrusions, guarding lookout posts, and assisting in rescue and rehabilitation operations during natural calamities and disasters.

This achievement is a testament to the PMF’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The certification was accomplished under the supervision of Ms. Varsha Sharma, IPS, DIGP L&O, PMF, and the command of Ms. Shweta K Sugathan, IPS, Superintendent of Police (Police Marine Force). The efforts were further guided by the leadership of Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, Director General of Police, and Ms. Sindhu Pillai A, IPS, Inspector General of Police, whose vision and direction were instrumental in this accomplishment.

Beyond its operational excellence, the Police Marine Force is actively engaged in community outreach and education. The PMF has been organizing and raising awareness about new criminal laws that will be implemented starting July 1, 2024. This outreach is aimed at local fishermen across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, including remote areas, to ensure they are well-informed about the upcoming legal changes.

To support this initiative, the PMF will host a session on the new criminal law on July 1, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Khaitaan Kalyan Mandapam. This session will educate staff from the Fisheries Department, Forest Department, Indian Coast Guard, and local fishermen from the Port Blair area about the new regulations and their implications.
