In a resolute step towards promoting hygiene, public health, and community well-being, the District Administration, Nicobar, conducted a massive district-wide cleanliness drive on June 14, 2025, under the Government of India’s flagship initiative, the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The extensive campaign spanned all villages, schools, healthcare facilities, markets, parks, and public spaces across the Nicobar District, mobilising departments, institutions, and local communities in a united effort to maintain cleanliness and foster a healthier environment.

The initiative aligns with the resolutions adopted during the 18th NCORD (National Committee on Drug Law Enforcement) Meeting, where it was unanimously decided to hold cleanliness drives on a fortnightly basis. These regular drives aim not only to improve sanitation but also to reinforce the vision of a drug-free and addiction-free society.

Under a coordinated framework, each department has been assigned specific villages to maintain, promoting ownership, accountability, and long-term impact. The drive saw enthusiastic participation from line departments, Tribal Councils, school authorities, health institutions, and—most importantly—local villagers, whose active involvement was instrumental in the campaign’s success.

Deputy Commissioner Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, commended the efforts of all stakeholders and lauded the strong community engagement. He emphasized that consistent public participation is essential to achieving lasting goals of cleanliness and fostering an addiction-free environment. “Let us take pride in keeping our surroundings clean, green, and healthy,” he urged.

This comprehensive drive marks a significant stride toward building a cleaner and more sustainable Nicobar District, reaffirming the Administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots-driven development.
