In a successful crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, a team from PS Mayabunder, led by Inspector S. Kannan, carried out a major excise operation that resulted in the seizure of a substantial quantity of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).

The operation, which took place in the Mayabunder area, was spearheaded by Inspector S. Kannan, Station House Officer (SHO), with the support of his team, including Inspector Gracefield and police constables S.N. Pathak, S. Shiva Kumar, and Felicitus. Acting on a tip-off about illegal liquor storage, the team quickly mobilized and conducted a raid.

The raid led to the recovery of a large haul of company-sealed liquor, including:

– 48 bottles (180 ml) of DK Double Kick Fine Whisky,

– 10 bottles (375 ml) of Bagpiper Deluxe Supreme Whisky, and

– 2 bottles (750 ml) of Pentagon Gold Edition Whisky.

The liquor was seized from the possession of a man identified as Muniyasamy, aged 41, residing near the Fish Market in Mayabunder. When questioned, Muniyasamy failed to produce any valid permits or licenses for storing such a large quantity of alcohol, leading to his arrest.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under the relevant sections of the Excise Regulations for the illegal possession of alcohol. The police are now investigating whether the accused was part of a larger network involved in smuggling illicit liquor in the region.

The successful operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Mr. Ankesh Yadav, DANIPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Diglipur, and Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.

Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information related to illegal activities or crimes. Citizens can report such activities to their nearest police station or contact the police via helplines 100, 112, and 03192-273344.
