In a major crackdown on illegal liquor production, police in Nicobar District conducted a jungle raid on May 31 in the dense forest areas of Perka (Headquarters), Car Nicobar. The operation was led under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police, Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, and executed with precision by the Station House Officer of PS Car Nicobar and an active team of police personnel.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the team launched a well-coordinated operation to target clandestine distillation units operating deep within the forest. During the raid, officers discovered and destroyed approximately 4,500 litres of lahen—a fermented wash used in the production of illicit liquor—hidden in plastic containers and camouflaged amidst thick undergrowth.
Police also seized multiple distillation apparatus and other related materials from the site, which have been taken into custody as part of an ongoing investigation.
This raid is part of a sustained district-wide campaign to eliminate illegal liquor activities from the Nicobar Islands. So far this year, law enforcement agencies have destroyed a total of 11,890 litres of lahen and seized 259.8 litres of illicit liquor across multiple operations.
The May 31 raid was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Aditya Kumar, DANIPS, SDPO Campbell Bay, and under the overall direction of SP (D) Nicobar, Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS.
