A medicinal sapling plantation drive was organised at GB Pant Hospital, ANIIMS, on February 14 under the Kayakalp Scheme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from patients, hospital staff and members of the community as part of the Jan Bhagidari programme, reflecting a collective commitment towards environmental sustainability and patient-centred healthcare.

During the programme, patients and their attendants were sensitised about the importance of hospital belongingness, personal hygiene and sanitation. Officials highlighted that integrating greenery with cleanliness and community involvement contributes significantly to creating a healing environment within healthcare institutions.

As part of the Jan Bhagidari initiative under the Kayakalp Scheme, the Amit Goenka Group donated patient waiting chairs to improve comfort and strengthen hospital infrastructure. Earlier, the Andaman and Nicobar Chemists and Druggists Association had contributed an industrial weighing machine to support Biomedical Waste Management at the hospital.

The hospital management has appealed to socially conscious citizens, community groups and local organisations to actively participate in such initiatives under the Kayakalp and Jan Bhagidari programmes. Those willing to contribute may contact the Nodal Officer, Kayakalp, at 9001911992 for further details and coordination.
