Meeting Held at Car Nicobar Tribal Council on Adult BCG Vaccination Programme

A meeting to review and discuss the implementation of the Adult BCG Vaccination Programme in Nicobar District was held on January 9, 2026, at the Tribal Council office, Big Lapathy, Car Nicobar.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Lionald Nicomed, Chairman, and Mr. Martin Luther, Secretary, Tribal Council, Car Nicobar, and was attended by Village Headmen, Lady Representatives, and members of the Tribal Council.

Deliberations focused on the upcoming Adult BCG Vaccination Drive scheduled to commence from January 15, 2026, across Nicobar District. The drive forms part of the nationwide Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Campaign, with Adult BCG vaccination identified as a key preventive intervention to reduce TB risk among vulnerable adult populations.

Officials from the Health Department, led by Dr. Anwar Moosa, District TB Officer (Nicobar), along with Mr. Ramesh Rao, District Programme Coordinator, and Mr. Suresh Kumar, Senior Treatment Supervisor, participated in the meeting. Dr. Moosa briefed the gathering on tuberculosis, including its types, modes of transmission, prevention strategies, and treatment options. He also outlined the proposed strategy for rolling out the Adult BCG Vaccination Drive in Car Nicobar.

Members of the Tribal Council actively participated in the discussions and assured full cooperation for the effective implementation of the programme. The Council agreed to extend support by directing Village First Captains to facilitate and mobilize community participation and to conduct vaccination sessions at community halls in various villages of Car Nicobar.

The Tribal Council further assured active support to health officials through coordination, community mobilization, and local facilitation to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the Adult BCG Vaccination Drive across the district.
