Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island have been peacefully protesting for their resettlement to a non-tribal area since the last 132 days. Their demand for resettlement has not been granted. The members of the settler families have also resorted to relay hunger strike since the last 127 days.
A meeting has been scheduled under the Chairmanship of Principal Secretary (Revenue), Andaman and Nicobar Administration to discuss the issues of the Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island on 30th of March at 3:30 Pm at Conference Hall of Secretariat, Port Blair.
Commissioner cum Secretary (Environment&Forests), Andaman and Nicobar Administration; Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman; Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar and representative of Katchal Settlers Welfare Association has been requested to attend the meeting.
Sri Lankan Tamil Settlers of Katchal Island are very hopeful that their demand for resettlement will be accepted in the meeting and steps will be taken towards their resettlement to a non-tribal area.
