Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has voiced his concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of Community Halls within the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) area. Sharma has urged immediate action to repair and upgrade these important assets that serve as venues for various social and cultural events.

In a letter addressed to the Chairperson of the PBMC, Sharma emphasized the significance of Community Halls in the PBMC wards as popular gathering places for a wide range of occasions, including birthday parties, weddings, receptions, cultural programs, and awareness campaigns. However, he expressed his dismay at the current state of disrepair in many of these Community Halls.

One of the key issues highlighted by Sharma is the lack of adequate facilities within the Community Halls. He noted the absence of proper bathroom facilities, poorly planned kitchens, and the lack of air conditioning, which poses difficulties for residents organizing functions, particularly during the dry and humid seasons.

To address these concerns, Sharma has called upon the Chairperson of the PBMC to take immediate action in repairing and upgrading the Community Halls. He specifically requested the construction of well-planned kitchens, the installation of clean and functional toilets, and the provision of air conditioning facilities.

Sharma emphasized that such improvements would not only enhance the overall experience for residents utilizing the Community Halls but also create a better platform for local youths to organize cultural, artistic, awareness, and recreational events.

Furthermore, the Member of Parliament highlighted the potential revenue generation for the PBMC. He emphasized that if the Community Halls are well-maintained, more people would choose these venues for small and medium-sized functions, resulting in increased revenue for the municipal council.

In addition to the repair and upgradation of existing Community Halls, Sharma also called for the construction of new Community Halls in PBMC wards where such facilities are currently lacking. This expansion would provide much-needed support to the residents of those areas, further fostering community engagement.

The concerns raised by Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma underscore the importance of maintaining and improving the Community Halls within the PBMC area. The Member of Parliament’s appeal for swift action reflects the significance of these venues in promoting social cohesion and facilitating various community activities.
