Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament representing Andaman and Nicobar Islands has raised a crucial demand, urging the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to reinstate food supply for patients at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kamorta.

Expressing deep concern, the Member of Parliament highlighted in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary that patients at CHC Kamorta are currently facing significant distress and hardship due to the absence of food provisions.

CHC Kamorta stands as a vital healthcare facility catering to the needs of residents in remote areas such as Teressa, Chowra, Pilpilow, Kakana, Daring, Munak, Champin, among others. Patients from these regions often undertake lengthy journeys to receive medical treatment, with many requiring hospitalisation.

However, the Member of Parliament underscored that for the past three months, reports have surfaced indicating a complete cessation of food supplies to patients at CHC Kamorta. This dire situation leaves patients with limited options, forcing them to either rely on distant family members, who must endure strenuous travels to provide sustenance, or depend on the generosity of local families near the health centre.

“Many patients do not have any relatives close to CHC, and there is also no private restaurant around CHC Kamorta,” the Member of Parliament remarked, shedding light on the acute challenges faced by patients in accessing basic nutrition.

Emphasizing the critical implications of this shortfall, the Member of Parliament underscored that the deprivation of essential sustenance not only exacerbates the suffering of patients but also poses a significant threat to their recovery and overall well-being.

In light of these pressing concerns, the Member of Parliament earnestly appealed to the Chief Secretary to take immediate action to ensure the resumption of food supplies for patients at CHC Kamorta. Such a measure, he asserted, would not only alleviate the hardships faced by patients but also facilitate their recovery process, bringing an end to their struggle to arrange sustenance from external sources.
