In a significant judgment reinforcing the rule of law, the Sessions Court at Sri Vijaya Puram on December 22, 2025 convicted a local resident in a gruesome murder case, bringing closure to a crime that occurred in July 2021.

Mr. Sudhir Kumar, Hon’ble Sessions Judge, Sri Vijaya Puram, held the accused, A. Venkateshwarlu, son of late Srinivasalu and a resident of Bargat Line, Sri Vijaya Puram, guilty of murder. The Court convicted him under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 201 IPC.

According to the prosecution, the accused, who was a neighbour of the deceased, approached the victim and his friends while they were playing volleyball at a local church ground. An altercation ensued, during which the accused allegedly attacked the victim with a sharp knife, inflicting fatal injuries that led to the victim’s death.

Following the incident, the matter was promptly reported at Police Station Aberdeen, resulting in the registration of FIR No. 81/2021 dated July 9, 2021 under Section 307 IPC, which was subsequently altered to appropriate sections during the course of investigation.

The case was meticulously investigated by Sub-Inspector S. Tejeshwar Rao under the supervision of the then Station House Officer, Inspector K. Joju. The prosecution was conducted by Mr. Sumit Kumar Karmakar, Public Prosecutor, High Court and Sessions Court, who examined key witnesses and placed substantial oral and documentary evidence before the Court.

After a detailed appreciation of the evidence on record, the Court found the accused guilty and awarded rigorous imprisonment for life under Section 302 IPC along with a fine of ₹10,000, with an additional one year of imprisonment in default of payment. The accused was also sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for three years under Section 201 IPC with a fine of ₹1,000, and an additional one month of imprisonment in default.
