Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has taken a bold step towards enhancing the technical prowess and employability of the region’s youth by advocating for specialised Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programs. In a significant meeting held on August 12th, 2023, in New Delhi, Mr. Sharma engaged with Mr. Ashutosh Chadha, Country Head of Microsoft India, and Mr. Sandeep Aurora, Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs at Microsoft India, to explore avenues for AI-focused education.
Recognising the transformative potential of AI, Mr. Sharma expressed his keen interest in equipping students and young adults in technical institutions across Andaman and Nicobar Islands, including engineering colleges, polytechnics, and ITIs, with comprehensive AI skills. His vision aims not only to enhance their employability but also to empower them to become pioneers in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
Mr. Sharma formally proposed that Microsoft take the lead in introducing specialised AI training initiatives tailored to the unique needs of the island’s budding talents. The meeting highlighted his commitment to ensuring that the youth of Andaman and Nicobar Islands remain at the forefront of technological advancements, with access to the cutting-edge skills required in today’s digital world.
In response to Mr. Sharma’s proactive approach, Microsoft demonstrated its eagerness to collaborate on this transformative initiative. The tech giant is expected to develop and implement in-depth training modules that will cater to the specific requirements of the island’s youth. These initiatives hold the promise of not only enhancing employment prospects but also sparking a wave of innovation and entrepreneurship driven by AI-powered solutions.
Mr. Sharma’s efforts underscore his dedication to propelling Andaman and Nicobar Islands into the digital age. By championing such forward-looking endeavours, he aims to bridge the gap between the region’s youth and the immense potential offered by the AI era.
The remoteness of the islands and the cost associated with AI courses have posed significant barriers to the youth’s access to AI education. Addressing this concern, Mr. Sharma proposed a unique approach – urging Microsoft to conduct AI training programs directly within the islands. This approach aims to overcome geographical challenges and financial constraints, ensuring that the region’s youth can actively participate in shaping the AI landscape of the future.
