Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Police Station apprehended a 19-year-old migrant from West Bengal at the Exit Gate of Veer Savarkar International Airport with 480 grams of illicit ganja on 2nd March 2025. The accused, identified as Sabir Hosen Molla, had arrived from Kolkata on a SpiceJet flight and was allegedly waiting for someone near the auto stand when he was intercepted by the police.

Inspector Pritam Behari, Station House Officer of the Anti-Narcotics Police Station, received credible information regarding Molla’s arrival with the contraband. The information was immediately relayed to Mr. Manish Kumar, DANIPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Narcotics), who instructed Inspector Behari to form a raiding team. The team comprised SI Mohd. Rahil Islam, PSI S. Sudharsanan, ASI Surya Narayan, and police constables Ratan Das, Nanak Singh, M. Raja Rao, and Nandita Mistry.

The raiding team reached the airport exit gate and, with the presence of independent witnesses, intercepted Molla. Upon being informed of his legal rights, Molla consented to a search, which was conducted in the presence of Dy.SP Manish Kumar, a Gazetted Officer. During the search, three transparent plastic packets containing dry leaves and flower shoots with a distinct odour were recovered from his red-coloured air travel bag. A preliminary drug detection test confirmed the substance as ganja.

The seized ganja, weighing a total of 480 grams, was properly sealed and seized as per procedure. Molla was formally arrested under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

The arrest marks yet another significant crackdown on drug-related activities in the region, as law enforcement authorities continue their efforts to curb the inflow of narcotics into the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
