The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), A&N Islands, in coordination with the District Administration, South Andaman, and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), South Andaman, has successfully facilitated the safe repatriation of a minor girl to her native place in Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal.

The case came to light following the registration of an FIR (No. 27/25 dated 30.06.2025) under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Chatham Police Station. The victim girl was placed under the care of the Child Welfare Committee, South Andaman. Investigations revealed that she had arrived in the Islands accompanied by the accused individual.

Upon a formal request submitted by the girl’s mother and in view of the need for proper investigation and social enquiry, the DLSA approached the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, to take necessary steps for the safe handover of the child to her family.

Responding promptly, the Deputy Commissioner coordinated with the Child Welfare Committee, South Andaman, to ensure the minor’s safe transfer. The Child Welfare Committee in Purba Bardhaman was requested to conduct a detailed enquiry into the family background and circumstances to assist in further proceedings under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

The DLSA appreciated the swift and compassionate efforts of the Deputy Commissioner and the Child Welfare Committee, highlighting their proactive role in safeguarding the welfare and dignity of the child.

This case underscores the importance of inter-state coordination and the commitment of legal and child protection authorities in protecting children’s rights.
