In a significant step towards strengthening access to knowledge and promoting a culture of reading in remote areas, a Mobile Library was inaugurated at Mus Village near Bishop’s House in Car Nicobar on Monday.

The initiative, implemented by the Directorate of Education, reflects the Administration’s continued commitment to inclusive education and community development in the Nicobar district. To ensure smooth and regular operations, the required bus for the Mobile Library has been provided by the Transport Department, Car Nicobar, enabling the service to reach different villages across the island.

Inaugurating the Mobile Library, Mr. Amit Kale, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District, highlighted the transformative power of books and underscored the importance of reading in shaping knowledge, values, and critical thinking abilities, particularly among children. He stated that such initiatives would help bridge educational gaps in remote areas and encourage students to develop lifelong learning habits.

Mr. Swapan Paik, Education Officer, Nicobar Zone, elaborated on the objectives of the Mobile Library, explaining that the initiative aims to make quality reading materials accessible to students and residents in far-flung villages. He emphasized that the Mobile Library would not only support academic learning but also nurture curiosity and creativity among young readers.

The launch of the Mobile Library is expected to benefit school students and community members alike, bringing books closer to doorsteps and reinforcing the Administration’s efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure in the Nicobar district.
