Port Blair, 25 Nov 2021

Mohanpura Area and Light House Junction area of Port Blair got waterlogged after heavy rains from early morning on 25th of Nov 2021. Pedestrians, as well as vehicular traffic, was affected due to the waterlogged roads.

The waterlogged roads in Port Blair have become a common scene and every few months, if not days, the citizens face problems in their daily commute.

Many citizens blame the Port Blair Municipal Council for the water-logging on roads of Port Blair. The waterlogged roads during heavy rains is a very old problem that the residents of Port Blair have been facing.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a world-renowned tourist destination and the question is whether these waterlogged roads during heavy rains will paint a positive picture of the Islands in the minds of the tourists.

Will these tourists who will have to face problems today because of the waterlogged roads, go back and recommend others to travel to Andaman and Nicobar Islands?

Andaman and Nicobar Administration should look into the issue and take corrective actions against the responsible agencies.

Hundreds of crores of public money is spent every year in the Islands to improve the civic amenities, but If the roads of the capital city can get water logged after a few hours of heavy rain, one can imaging the state of the rural areas.

Some people with the knowledge of the issue blame high tide coupled with heavy rains for the waterlogged roads in low lying areas of Port Blair city. High Tides can certainly be the reason, but what are all the construction agencies and the highly paid engineers for, if they cannot even solve such issues with all their knowledge of engineering.

The last high tide in Port Blair occurred at 11:50 Am on 25th November 2021 and during the time of publishing this story the low tide is less than four hours away at 5:45 Pm and the water from the road is receding.

The next high tide at Port Blair will occur at 00:07 Am on 26th of November 2021 and if the night brings heavy rains, the roads of low lying areas of Port Blair such as Mohanpura and Light House Junction will again get waterlogged until the next low tide.
